The Story
Granite Creek Meadows is the missing link in the Ridge-to-River Wildlife Corridor — 180 acres of high-elevation, snowmelt-fed meadow sitting directly between Bramble Ridge Preserve and Two Forks Riparian Corridor. Without it, wildlife moving through our protected land has to cross nearly a mile of fenced private grazing land and a two-lane county road to complete the route from ridge to river.
The meadow itself is exactly the kind of habitat a corridor needs at this elevation: open, snowmelt-saturated ground that green’s up early and stays productive through summer, historically used as elk calving habitat before grazing pressure pushed elk to lower-quality ground nearby. The current owner, a longtime rancher planning retirement, has given us a signed option to purchase through 2027 — a real deadline, not a soft target.
We have raised 61% of the $4.2 million acquisition and initial stewardship budget as of this year. Every gift to our corridor fund and every Founder-level membership goes toward closing this specific gap first — it is the single acquisition that would complete an unbroken protected corridor from the ridge to the river for the first time in the trust’s history.
